Knaresborough in Bloom Great Spring Clean
Ackrills February 2017
It is noticeable that the days are growing longer and with these lengthening days our thoughts turn to spring and our plans for the year ahead.
This year, Knaresborough in Bloom has once again decided that we don’t have the helpers or the resources to enter the Yorkshire in Bloom competition, however that doesn’t mean that the work stops. Far from it. One of our first jobs this spring is the Great Spring Clean. Although generally our area is fairly tidy, over winter rubbish blows out of bins and gets scattered far and wide, so it’s good to start our year of activity with a litter pick. A number of local people were concerned about litter on Facebook, so we are providing an opportunity for all to become involved in tidying up our area. If anyone would care to join us, we have equipment provided by HBC but please bring your own gloves. We will be meeting at McDonalds at the St James retail park at 10am on Saturday 4th March. We hope that staff from McDonalds will join us in litter picking the area around the café and the area generally.
Also in March we will start our monthly work parties after the winter break. These always take place on the first Thursday of the month, from 9.30 till 11.30. Some years ago Knaresborough in Bloom improved some gardens in the Park Row area of town. Since then we maintain these gardens on a regular basis so we will meet on Thursday 2nd March at the Park Row car park to tidy up our Mediterranean garden and the Park Row garden. More helpers would be very welcome and please feel free to come along to any of our events, whether the litter pick or the monthly work parties.
