Mill back in full bloom
THE old linen mill in Knaresborough is flourishing once again thanks to Harrogate Borough Council's Parks team, but this time only flowers will be woven!
Constructed of marigolds, begonias and ageratum, The Linen Mill is the winning design of Knaresborough In Bloom's Design A Flowerbed Competition.
The design of the former mill now takes pride of place in a flower bed alongside the bowling green at Knaresborough Castle. The Knaresborough in Bloom group launched the competition for schoolchildren in the town aged five to 11 last year with the mill as a theme. There were plenty of entries of a very high standard to judge.
After much deliberation, Zuleika von Benecka from year five at Castle CE Junior School was chosen as the winner.
"We chose Zuleika's design because it was unmistakably the old mill and water wheel," said one of the judges. "It was also a bold and simple idea that we knew would make an impact when planted."
Ten year old Zuleika was thrilled to be chosen as the winner and delighted that everyone will now see the newly planted design.
