THE seats at Knaresborough railway station have been given the seal of approval by local people.
When Northern Rail removed the old seats as part of the bid to tidy up and refurbish the attractive station, locals were horrified when bright blue and yellow seats appeared on the platform.

However the colours have now been toned down to fit in with the look of the station.

Doris Hayton, who voluntarily looks after the plants and shrubs at the station, said: “The bright painted seats were so out of keeping. Many people commented to me how garish they looked. They were awful!”

However, the rail company has removed the seats and had them resprayed in silver grey and blue colours.

“It’s much more in keeping with the look of the platforms,” said Doris. “The new colours are much better and they tone in very well.

“With the shrubs and the newly planted trollies, we’re making a big effort for this summer’s In Bloom contest and with these new-look seats, the station will look really smart.”
